Barbara Mcgonagle Christensen

Barbara was born in Portland, Maine, on January 8, 1938, and grew up in Yarmouth, Maine. She was the daughter of Patrick "Packy " McGonagle and Delia Connolly Bonang. At the age of 18, Barbara left home and moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked as a secretary for the Department of the Navy. During this time, she met and married her husband, Roger Christensen, who was serving in the Air Force. Together, they moved to Omaha, NE, before her government job transferred the family to Kansas. Barbara dedicated over 40 years of her life to government service, demonstrating her commitment and hard work throughout her career.

Barbara was very proud of her Irish heritage. Her mother's family home in Ireland is still owned by relatives and operates as a bed and breakfast, a cherished link to her family's roots.

Barbara loved shopping and was always on the lookout for a great deal. She had a special fondness for jewelry and rings, and each one she wore carried a meaningful story, reflecting her vibrant personality and cherished memories.

Barbara is survived by her son, David Christensen, and her daughter, Pamela Christensen. She was also a proud grandmother to Tyler  (Emily) Christensen, Hayley (Zach) Goode, and Jake Christensen, and a loving great-grandmother to Marley Christensen and Camden Christensen, and her brother Henry Bonang.

She was preceded in death by Roger Christensen, her siblings Anne Morrill, Daniel McGonagle, William "Billy" McGonagle, and her very close sister Mary Marello, who passed 11 days prior to her. 

Barbara ultimately became a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. She will be remembered for her quirky nature, her devotion to those she cared for, and the countless memories she created with her loved ones.

A visitation for Barbara will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home & Cremation Service, located at 105 E. Loula Street, Olathe, KS 66061.
