Anna Maria Tarr (née Spencer) of Olathe, KS was born January 1, 1958, to Edith Spencer and Richard King in Kansas City, MO. She was a loving mother to four daughters. She was a friend to all and never met a stranger. Kindness and generosity were her hallmark. She made it her life’s mission to help as many people as possible through clothing, food, school supplies, and toy drives and giveaways.
Anna graduated from St. Theresa’s Academy in 1976. She worked for the Social Security Administration for several years. Her true calling was working with children. She volunteered at her daughters’ schools, ran a summer day camp, worked in afterschool programs, and even ran for the KC school board.
Anna was a life-long and faithful Christian. Her beliefs were extremely important to her. She never wanted anyone to leave her presence without praying with or over them, be it in person or on the phone. She loved her Lord and Savior more than anything and would not want her family, friends, and loved ones to dwell in sadness on her behalf. Instead, she would want us to rejoice with her as she has been reunited with Jesus Christ.
Anna passed away from cancer on Sunday, March 10, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her mother Edith. She leaves behind her loving husband John Tarr. She is survived by her four daughters: Tiffany (Brian Smith) Taylor of Charlotte, NC, Tianna Taylor-Albin, Tracy (Daniel) King, and Felicia Hyrne; stepchildren: Jackie Tarr, Jason Tarr, John Tarr Jr., and Tae Wallace, as well as her brother Martin Spencer of Chicago, IL. Also surviving are several grandchildren whom she loved dearly and was deeply devoted to: Eli, Renee, Addy, Isaac, Helena, Amera, Kingston, Aspen, Harper, Dominic, Sylar, Dane, and Azaryah.
Services will be held Saturday, March 23, at City Center Church, 17500 W 87th St, Lenexa, KS 66219, with visitation at 10 a.m. and service starting at 11 a.m. Burial will take place Monday, March 25, at 10 a.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
