William Taylor Sorenson, age 77, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, June 5, 2022. “Bill” was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Maude Clare and Clifford C. Sorenson. He was the youngest of four brothers. Bill attended Northwest Claassen High School where he played baseball and enjoyed performing in plays. At his 25th year reunion he did not know how to get to the cafeteria because he had never been during his entire high school years. Upon graduation from high school in 1963, Bill attended Oklahoma City University. He was a 1968 graduate of OCU where he earned a degree in Business Administration. Prior to graduating from college, Bill became a proud member of the Air Force - Air National Guard in 1967.
While in college, Bill met Julie, the love of his life. Julie and Bill were married in August 1967 and created a beautiful life together in Edmond, Oklahoma where they raised their two children, Jenny and Taylor. Together, they ran a successful gift store, Handmakers at French Market Mall, for thirteen years. Julie and Bill celebrated fifty-four years of marriage prior to Julie’s passing in February 2022. It gives their family great comfort knowing that Bill and Julie are together and dancing once again.
Bill was a loving husband, dad, and Poppa. At heart, he was a businessperson who invested in a variety of endeavors from vending machines, bowling alleys, restaurants, retail stores, real estate, and oil and gas. Bill’s favorite hobby was flying his plane he named Sweet Life. In his younger days, he would often look up at the sky and say, “Looks like a great day to play in the clouds.” Bill was also a very skilled woodworker. He could build anything out of wood from clocks to briefcases to salt and pepper shakers. He won the OKC Pennies for Wildflowers contest every year it was held using his woodworking skills by creating beautiful wooden banks. Bill was always handy, and there was nothing he could not fix from a broken doll to a transmission on a tractor. He never backed down from a good challenge.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Sandy Sorenson, his brother Greg Sorenson, and his loving wife, Julie Sorenson. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jenny and Jeff Proznik, his son and daughter-in-law Taylor and Debra Sorenson, grandchildren Madeline and Nickolas Proznik and Harrison and Jackson Sorenson, his brother and sister-in-law John D. and Karen Sorenson, his sister-in-law Paula Sorenson, and many other loving relatives and friends. Bill will be dearly missed by everyone. Bill would always ask you to “hold a good thought” because you can’t hold a bad one at the same time, and that is what we intend to do when we think of him. A celebration of Bill’s wonderful life will be held at a later date.
