Willard Morton Woods was called home to be with his heavenly Father early Monday morning, February 21, 2011, after a full and blessed life of 91 years. Willard was born on September 28, 1919, in the Oklahoma City home of his parents, Wiley and Lois Woods. Growing up during the Great Depression, Willard learned the plumbing trade at a Civilian Conservation Corps camp, a skill serving him, his family and his country well. Shortly before World War Two, he married Earline Roberta Pool, who would be his devoted wife until she passed away 62 years later. When war broke out, he enlisted in the Navy serving as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater. Willard and Earline were charter members of both Mayfair Baptist Church and Village Baptist Church. His entire family was active in leadership and servant roles in both churches. Following retirement, Willard ran in the 1992 Democratic primary for the U.S. 5th District Congressional seat to, “just to get some of my ideas across.” Gardening, hunting, fishing and even scuba diving reflected his zest for life. But church and family were always at the center. Following the death of Earline, Willard married Blanch Pound, his loving companion until her passing in 2007. Since then, he resided in Assisted Living at the Mansion at Waterford where he actively encouraged senior adult recreational activities. He leaves three daughters, Alma Kaderli, Janice Eck and Dian Glazier, a son, Dr. Willard Woods, Jr., 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Services will be conducted Friday, February 25, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. at Mayfair Baptist Church in Oklahoma City with graveside services to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery at 13400 North Kelley in Oklahoma City. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Mayfair Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
