Walter G. Porter, 83, passed away at home on Thursday, May 31st, 2012. Walt was born on May 13, 1929 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to William and Mattie Porter. After high school, Walt joined the Army Air Corps and shortly thereafter, participated in the Berlin Air Lift as well as being stationed in Panama and Japan. Later, while stationed at Castle Field, CA, he met his wife Virginia Flender of Pasadena, CA and they were married on May 16, 1951. Walt and Virginia traveled the country due to his service in the Air Force and had three sons. Retiring in 1968 at McCord AFB as a Master Sergeant, Walt went to work for the Boeing Company in Seattle, WA. and eventually owned his Exxon service station in Tacoma, WA. Forced to retire early due to heart problems, he lived his retirement years in both Texas and Oklahoma. Walt was preceded in death by his parents as well as seven of his eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by his brother Raymond of Trinty, TX; loving wife Virginia of 61 years; children: John of Crystal River, FL; Steven of Gig Harbor, WA; William of Moore, OK; grandchildren: John Jr., Christopher, Jennifer, Bethany and Jason; and great-grandchildren: Abigail and Benjamin. Walt enjoyed fishing, hunting, working with his hands in his shop and vegetable gardening. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday June 4, 2012 at Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park Norman, OK.
