Vinita was born in Hollister, Oklahoma, to Richard Thomas (Dick) Morton and Brighty Allgood Morton on December 21, 1932. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1950 and attended Draughon’s School of Business in Wichita Falls, Texas, where she studied accounting. She worked as a bookkeeper for multiple businesses until she married the love of her life, Morris E. Stewart, on April 28, 1969. They were blessed with 32 wonderful years together before he passed away in 2001. They especially enjoyed the years they lived in their home on Lake Texoma and on their ranch in Durant before moving back to Oklahoma City in 1994.
Vinita and Morris were charter members of Deer Creek Church of Christ and attended regularly until health declined. She enjoyed studying the scriptures and found great comfort in her faith.
Vinita loved to travel with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed her trips to Red River, New Mexico, Branson, Missouri, Alaska, and Europe from Norway to Greece. She enjoyed reminiscing about all the places she had visited and the memories she had made. She always had a funny story or two to share about each adventure. Her travels also led to a passion for art, and she particularly enjoyed collecting Native American Art.
Vinita was also an avid sports fan. She never missed an opportunity to watch the OU Sooners, OKC Thunder, and Dallas Cowboys play and would often call or text to see what others thought about a particular call or play.
Vinita was preceded in death by her husband Morris E. Stewart, son John, her parents Dick and Brighty Morton, brothers Weldon and Wyndel, sister Ouida Sue, grandson Paul Benjamin, and great grandson Lennox.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Ben Stewart and wife Rita of Aberdeen, Scotland; son Joe Stewart and wife Angelia of Oklahoma City; stepdaughters Kathleen Harris, Oklahoma City; Beverly Hardridge of Edmond; Janey Wheeler of Sedro-Wooley, Washington; Marcy Miller and husband Les of Oklahoma City; and Julie Buchanan and husband Larry of Mustang; stepson John (Butch) Foreman and wife Clistell of McKinney, Texas; 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services only will be held on May 31st at 2:00pm at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City under the direction of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Brant Stubblefield and Carl Griffin will officiate.
Burial will immediately follow, and her beloved husband Morris’s ashes will be interred by her side at this time.
Pall bearers will be Ben Stewart, Joe Stewart, Joe Stewart, Jr., Sonny Stewart, Tom Lowe, and Ronnie Morton.
