Velma Jewel Taylor, 94, longtime resident of Del City, passed away October 17, 2011. She was born January 11, 1917 in Lindsay, Oklahoma, to Ray Earl and Charlotte May (Kindred) Boothe. Velma attended Dibble High School. On August 14, 1934, she married Howard Leon Taylor in Chickasha. For many years, Velma worked as a fitter and seamstress at John A. Brown Department Store. Howard and Velma were charter members of Howard Memorial Baptist Church since 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband and her son Otis R. Taylor. She is survived by her sons Glen and his wife Mary Taylor and Monte and his wife Debbie Taylor; grandchildren, Denise Jackson, Don Taylor, Sherrie Dorsey, Rhonda Taylor, Susan Robinson, Kim Kessler, Kelly Woody, Scott Taylor and Julie Kinion; 18 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel with interment in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
