After her schooling years, Velma worked for a time with the Agricultural Soil Conservation office and from March 1940 to October 1941 Velma worked at the Smokey Hill AFB as a parachute rigger, and at this time met the love of her life Martin Lindquist and was subsequently married on December 31st 1942 and after marriage living in Salina Kansas. In November 1944 their first son Robert was born. And two years later their second son Donald was born.
In 1952 Velma and Martin move to Smolan, Kansas where they share-cropped a 80 acre farm keeping busy trying to make a living while both holding down a full time job, Martin working at Shilling AFB and Velma became chief administrator of the School hot lunch program at the elementary school. She moved from Salina, Kansas to a farm near Newalla, Oklahoma in 1965. And again both holding down a full time job, this time Velma was employed at Tinker AFB. She worked in transportation logistics support. Velma was very involved in the Newalla community. She worked as a receptionist at Harrah Baptist Church. Velma has always enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Newalla Quilting Club. Velma moved to Midwest City in 2000, and became a member of Wickline United Methodist Church.
Velma is survived by her son, Robert and wife Irene Lindquist; granddaughter, Sherry and husband Steve Hoffman; grandson, Kenneth and wife Sharte Lindquist; granddaughter, . Michelle and husband Josh Monson; grandson, Jason Lindquist; great-grandchildren: Zachary, Shane, Jacob, Taylor, Jenna, Jordan and McKayla; and numerous other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gottlieb and Anna; husband, Martin Lindquist; son, Donald Lindquist; brother, Earl Yordy; and sister, Bertha Bradford.
A graveside service for Velma will be held at 2:00P.M., Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Arlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum, 3400 North Midwest Boulevard, Midwest City, Oklahoma 73141.
