Terry David Routon, 76, passed away January 10th, 2022. He was born October 11th, 1945 in Oklahoma City to George and Kathleen Routon. He attended Columbus Grade School, Jackson Jr. High, and Capitol Hill High School where he enjoyed singing in the award winning choir.
After graduating from Capitol Hill in 1963, he attended Oklahoma Christian College before being drafted into the US Army in 1967. He was selected to go to NCO school at Fort Benning, GA, as a Drill Sergeant. Home on leave from NCO school in 1967, Terry met Harriet Hunt, the love of his life. Terry was wounded in battle on September 16th, 1968, and received a Purple Heart. After a long recovery, he came home to marry Harriet on July 24th, 1970.
Terry and Harriet had two children, Chad born 1971, and Laurie born 1974. He worked at Fred Jones Lincoln Mercury from 1974 to 1979 when he decided to take his family on an adventure by buying a donut shop. He worked side by side with his wife and children, making donuts, singing, and laughing with all who dared to be a part of the donut shop family. He loved taking donuts to every business meeting, family event, and sessions of Camp Rock Creek. After 16 years, he had to give up his donut shop dreams.
In 1998, Terry started working at Oklahoma Christian University as the Manager of the Mail Room. In 2001, while working at OC, he bravely finished the degree he started in 1963, graduating on the Dean’s List with a Business degree.
Retiring in 2010, he loved spending time with his wife Harriet, dog Pistol, and his children.
Terry and his family have worshiped at Southwest church of Christ for over 80 years where Terry was proud to serve the Lord and the congregation as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Kathleen Routon of Oklahoma City, and nephew Eric Routon of Pauls Valley, OK.
He is survived by his wife Harriet of 51 years, brother George Routon of Broken Arrow, son Chad Routon and wife Michele of Pflugerville, TX, daughter Laurie Shannon and husband John of Moore, Oklahoma, 2 step-grandchildren, Nigel and Hailey, nephew Wayde Routon and family of Seattle, WA, niece Pamela Hamar and family of Castle Rock, CO, and many beloved cousins and lifelong friends.
