Teiko Hulme, passed from this life on Sunday, May 28, 2023. She was born April 30, 1941 to Seijiro and Tsuru Kunigami in Osaka, Japan. Teiko and family fled to Okinawa in 1943 during World War II. There she was raised in both the Japanese and Okinawan traditions.
She married Don Hulme of El Reno, Oklahoma on December 16, 1969. She was an astute homemaker and supported Don during his service in the U.S. Air Force.
In 1975, after arduous studies, Teiko was proud to have earned her United States Citizenship and become an American.
Teiko had a love of gardening, exceptional skills in arts and crafts, impeccable organizational skills, and a pragmatic nature that made her well suited to her life as a military spouse. Don’s career took him, Teiko and the three children to military bases from Okinawa to Nebraska, Guam and finally retiring in Oklahoma.
Teiko strived to build a strong foundation for her family. Her children, six grandchildren and two great grandchild loved and admired Teiko for her quintessential support, integrity, love of laughter and independent spirit.
From her birth, the family practiced Soka Gakkai International Nichiren Buddhism and was an active member attending regular services, hosting study groups as well as supporting faith-based functions and outings.
Mrs. Teiko Hulme had succeeded in living a life grounded by family and surrounded by many who loved her.
Teiko is survived by her siblings, Kayoko, Nobuko, Masanobu and Tomoko. Her children; daughter Motoko Hulme-Baldwin and husband Mike of Oklahoma City; daughter Patricia Hulme Luedecke and husband Troy of Yukon, OK; son Curtis Hulme and wife Justice of Moore, OK. Grandchildren Chelsea Smith, Bretton Greenwood, Sydney Hulme, Travis Hulme, Collin Ragle and Mariel Hulme; Great-grandchildren Aiden and Knox Smith; sister-in-law Norma Hulme of Eufaula, OK and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Don, parents; brother Masanori and sister Satoko.
