Sarah Carolyn Thomas Kirkland, 79, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2017, in Oklahoma City, OK at Integris Baptist Hospital after a short illness. She was born in Louisville, AL on May 13, 1938.
She married the love of her life at 16 on June 5, 1954 in Union Springs, AL. They were married for 49 years until he passed in June 2003. She was able to travel since her husband was in the US Army. She made a home wherever they were stationed. They lived in GA, Germany, NJ, Panama Canal Zone, NY and retired in Grafton, VA upon her husband's return from Vietnam. She was a resident of Grafton, VA for 37 years before moving to Oklahoma City, OK to be close to her daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She has lived the past 23 months at Quail Creek Assisted Living and the staff took great care of her.
She leaves behind her daughters Wanda (Mark) and Linda (Bernod), five grandchildren Rene', Bernod Jr., Joshua, Sarah and Jonathan and two great-grandchildren Memphis and Phoenix all of Oklahoma City, OK and one sister, Faye, of Louisville, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Allen Kirkland, one brother, AJ Thomas, one sister, Catherine Staffer, one grandson, Timothy Allen Conley, and one great-grandson, Reese Franken.
A funeral service will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 NW Expressway on Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 13, 2017, from 8 a.m. till 8 p.m. with family available from 5 p.m. till 7 p.m. Arrangements under the direction of Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK.
