Sandra Kay Cushing Griesel was taken home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, February 19th, 2018. Sandra Kay is survived by her husband Ronald Griesel; step-son David Griesel and his wife, Mercy; brother William D. Cushing; sister-in-law Linda Cushing; and nieces Sherry Lockerman and, Anne Segars, and Katherine Cushing, among other loved ones. She was preceded in death by her father Dr. Vernon D. Cushing, mother Ruthanne (La Rue) Cushing, and sister Karan Cushing Watson.
Sandra Kay was born on July 20, 1947 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Dr. and Mrs. Vernon D. Cushing. She attended Harding High School, graduated from Trinity College San Antonio Texas in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in Education, and obtained a Master of Education from Central State University in 1971. She married Ronald Griesel, her sweetheart of many years, in 2010.
For over 30 years, Sandra Kay worked as a primary school teacher for the Okarche School District and left a profound and loving mark on her community. She inherited her father’s keen curiosity and was a loving wife, sister, aunt, and friend. Her family remembers her as a kind and patient soul who had a great talent to truly listen to others and encouraged them to pursue their passions. She was an avid reader, a pianist, and loved to laugh, to travel, and to exchange stories.
Sandra Kay will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Her absence in the world will be felt with great heartache, but she remains with us in the wonderful, fun and loving memories she leaves behind. Together with her parents and sister Susie, there’s a glorious reunion in Heaven today.
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 24th, 2018 at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 13313 N Kelley Avenue, Oklahoma City, with a reception to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery Historic Chapel.
