She was honored when asked to sing the Star Spangled Banner at CHHS homecoming game (CHHS vs. Harrah) and introduced as a 1951 CHHS graduate. She reported it was an exciting and memorable night, along with being a soloist for two years with Classic Swing Band for CHHS Alumni Association All Class Reunions.
Working full time from graduation to retirement, almost every evening she had a rehearsal. She was a lifetime member of Canterbury Choral Society, a Charter Member of Singing Church Women of Oklahoma. Over 20 years she weekly prepared worship services for several MWC nursing homes and retirement centers as a music ministry outreach of Norman Park FBC. She started young, when in high school, volunteering to work with her church’s children’s Booster Band.
After high school, Ruth moved to Norman, and at First Baptist Church was inspired to volunteer when asked to work with the new Graded Choir Program, where her goal was to have every activity fun filled, but each activity must also be a musical learning experience. Choosing the choir name “Music Time with Friends”, she directed pre-school children’s choir for many years, and after moving to NE OKC continued directing pre-school children’s choirs for many years at Nicoma Park First Baptist Church, totaling over 50 years working with a Children’s Music Ministry, while also active in Church Adult Choirs, Choral Groups, singing in duets, trios, quartets, ensembles, and as a soloist, Ruth always said she was “blest” with lots of opportunities throughout the years as God opened many doors for singing.
