Over years of knowing Ross both at KOCO and OETA  one small item that I would ask him before he would go to the set for the news/weather cast was "have you looked out the window yet Ross?" He always said he would go outside or at least look out an exterior window before he would deliever his weather report....just to see if mother nature and he agreed.

I'm so sorry for your loss!  I remember many political conversations with your dad and mom.  He was a brilliant man who loved his family so much.  He will be missed by so many people.  Praying for all of you.

Ross was such a fun person to be around; had the sharpest wit and driest sense of humor. I am so grateful for the more than 15 years we spent together at OETA. The conversations we had, the pranks that we played on each other, the things we taught each other. He loved for people to think he was a curmudgeon, when in actuality, he was a loving, kind, and loyal friend. 
Having met and befriended him when I was 17, he taught me so much as I grew up. While we were political opposites,  Ross showed me that people with different ideologies from my own where neither good nor evil for it.  They were people. He was one who I respected and loved for his difference of opinion--even if I periodically wanted to strangle him. :) 
It had been too long since I last had lunch with him, which will always be a regret. However, I am so grateful for the countless hours we spent together and the incredible influence he was in my life. I believe he knew how much I loved him, because I am positive of how much he loved me. He often treated me as if I was one of his own children, always looking out for me. I am forever grateful for his friendship.

Met and worked with Ross in 1967 when I went to work at KOCO in production. I left in 69 to go to KWTV but Ross and I worked again when he came to OETA. I always liked to kid Ross about looking out a window before he would do his weather cast. "Just a last chance to see what's happening outside." Great guy with a fine sense of humor. Including a couple of photos of Ross and the news team at OETA.


Dad I miss you more than words can say. We were supposed to have roast on Sunday. I had already bought your Father's Day card. I know you were tired. I know you were hanging on for us, for your children and grandchildren. I know without a doubt that you loved us all! You showed it everyday. You taught me so much. I will continue to make you proud and I will continue being the best sister and aunt I can be. It comforts me to know that you are with mom. Until I see you again . Love you Deanne. 

Ross, or Rossie, as I loved to call him, was my dear friend and respected colleague.  We shared the anchor desk at KOCO and at OETA for many, many years where I was able to witness his admirable skills as a meteorologist and his serious love of all things
weather-related.  I could always depend on Rossie to deliver a 
no-nonsense weather forecast and to gently reprimand me when I  ignored what he called "transitional months"........especially  when I chose to plant my garden too early.  
Ross was one of a kind.  He was a true gentleman, and I learned over the course of our friendship what a kind and loving soul he was, under that droll and sometimes curmudgeon-like exterior.  After our departure from OETA,  we continued to keep in touch and met occasionally for lunch, often with my husband, Ken, along as well.  They were always fun occasions.   I would also sometimes save him some of my Navy Bean Soup when I made a batch.  He loved the soup but also loved that it had Navy in the title.  I will always treasure our friendship.

Ross was a trusted and outstanding meteorologist, and an even better person and friend. Loyal, thoughtful, reliable and solid through good times and challenging times. A stand-up guy and colleague.  I owe much of my career to him and I am grateful that he steered me clear of storms (specifically, he saved me when he told me not to drive home as the May 3rd tornado was passing through Moore) and delivered a lot of wisdom.  We had great debates about current events just about every day - he did not suffer fools gladly and loved to share his wit and insight.  I will always treasure our bond and the discussions we had that were a highlight of every one of our days together at KOCO and later at OETA.  How I loved his stories and perspectives. He took some pride in being a bit of a curmudgeon, but he had a caring heart and would do anything for a friend.  I don't think he knew it, but Ross was a bit of a father figure for me, too. I loved him and will always treasure his memory and influence on my professional and personal life.  I write this with deep sadness. Condolences to the family during this heart-breaking time. Thank you for sharing him with us for so many years.  We will miss Ross a lot and never forget him. 

I do remember watching Meteorologist Ross Dixon, when he did present the daily weather segment on "The Oklahoma News Report" every night for many years, until July 2010 when OETA made immediate changes to alter this program's format and eliminate its daily weather segment, when he was asked to retire from Oklahoma City TV. And we're sure gonna miss an Oklahoma City News legend who did the weather casts for 42 years, and we're also gonna miss his booming voice. Rest in peace Ross Dixon, you will be greatly missed! 

I worked in Master Control at KOCO. Ross often was called in to do overnight weather cut ins. If it was overnight on a weekend, we would be airing old westerns, like the ones starring Audie Murphy. I would stop the movie so Ross could do his report and he always greeted the viewers saying they were not missing any of the movie and then do his weather report and before we went back to the movie, he would tell a bit about the movie... on just about every old western movie we ever did cut ins on! My favorite was him talking about the horse in one and telling some back story..It was always great whatever he had to say! He was a smart, funny wonderful man and I considered him a friend. He was an outstanding meteorologist, one of the top in the field! He will be greatly missed by all in the industry and beyond. My prayers and love go out to all the family. Keep us tornado clear, will ya Ross, now that you are up there above the clouds and have the best view of all! All my love, Cheryl M. Melton 

I want to thank Ross for being such a good friend to my father Fred Norman. My dad did not have a large circle of friends but Ross was in that circle and stood close to my dad during many of his most challenging times. My prayers go out to the Dixon family and all those touched by Ross.  

Before knowing Ross as my neighbor, I remember how soothing his voice was when he did the weather.  I loved listening to him.

There was only one Ross, and that was Ross Dixon.  He was my next door  neighbor  for at least 30 years.  I sure felt safe over weather with Ross around.  He would call Peggy and tell her to call me and  for all of us hit the deck....I would join Peggy in the basement.  He would look out for his neighbors always.  Ross it won't be the same without you in this world....you will be missed my dear friend.  May you R.I.P.  

Ross was Dad! Deanne and I have been friends for quite some time and he was Dad to me. He always had kind words and great, straight to the point, no holds bar advice which was always appreciated. You will be missed Dad!

Ross was such a fun guy to be around. He is the father of Deanne my best friend and even though I have only known him for a short time he touched my heart. I would make him Banana nut bread and send it to him. He almost always wanted to give me something in return. I will miss him as we would speak on the phone almost everyday when Deanne would go to see him. RIP my friend. 

Ross was a friend to my brother from the 6th grade at St. Patrick grade school until Tom died in 2019 .  He was faithful and helpful to Tom until the end.  I appreciate everything that Ross was and did.  A really great man.
