He married the love of his life, Barbara, on July 14, 1976.
Roger served five years in the US Air Force. He was very proud of his country. While in the Air Force, he traveled to many countries. He was a load master on a C130. But he also said there’s no place like Oklahoma.
Roger worked for Lee Way Motor Freight, owned a Phillips 66, worked for a Lincoln dealership, and had a 160-acre cattle farm in Davenport, OK. He also served on the Davenport School Board.
Roger and Barbara taught their children right from wrong and to do unto others as you would want them to do for you. He loved his family, cooking, and gardening.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles Smith and Douglas Smith. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; three children: Cara Anderson and husband Doug of Norman, OK, Ken Woolbright and wife Angie of Braggs, OK, and Shane Woolbright of Oklahoma City; brother, Darrel Smith and wife Judy Kaye of Yukon, OK; sisters-in-law, Joan Welch and husband Gary and Karen Bryant and husband Jon; grandchildren: Leigh Ramsey and husband Lance, Nichole Bridwell and husband Zack, Ryan Anderson, Steven Woolbright, Chelsea Woolbright, James Woolbright and wife Rachel, and Hailey Wilson and husband Cody; 16 great-grandchildren with another on the way; best buddy, Bill Gilcrest; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
The family is very grateful for the excellent care Roger received from VA Homebased Primary Care and especially to his VA health providers: Fredette Pursley and Steven Swoyer, and all the nurses and staff at Excell Homecare and Hospice.
