Robert “Bob” Snyder, 77, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Bob was born on December 14, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Dow and Jean Snyder. Shortly after his birth, the family, including older sister Valerie Ann, moved to Oklahoma City where Bob graduated from Classen High School in 1963. He attended Central State College where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1968.
After college, Bob joined the United States Air Force where his training in ground radio sparked a love for electronics. He served in the 205th Electronics Installation Squadron of the Oklahoma Air National Guard and the USAF Reserve until his honorable discharge in 1974.
In 1970, Bob’s mother and future mother-in-law, both long-time Sears employees, thought it might be good for their son and daughter to meet. The Lord used this young lady to turn Bob to Christ and on May 6, 1971, he was saved. A short time later he was baptized and joined Trinity Baptist Church where he taught a teen boys Sunday school class, worked in the sound booth and served at the church’s local mission. That young lady, Jan Jenkins, was the love of Bob’s life and they married on November 27, 1971. They were married 51 years.
Bob worked for Electronic Dictation Systems from 1970 to 1992, most of that time as service manager. He took great pride in helping build EDS during his 22-year career there. Before retiring, he taught part-time at Harvest Hills Christian School for 15 years and worked part-time with his dear friend Paul Sublett at KQCV radio.
Bob was a devoted father to his two sons, Shea and Shaun. He loved to be at home with his family, never missing a chance to play catch, watch an OU football game or show his boys how to build or fix something in the shop. His spiritual influence was also immeasurable, always drawing teaching moments back to God’s Word. He thoroughly enjoyed woodworking, tackling countless projects for family and friends. He was also truly a jack-of-all-trades. If it was broken, he could fix it. He found great joy in using his talents to help others, including keeping things working around the church. It was through these activities that he taught his boys a strong work ethic and how to make work fun.
Bob was a faithful member of Harvest Hills Baptist Church for more than 30 years, serving as church treasurer for 27 years. He also taught an adult Sunday School class, worked in the sound booth and served as a deacon. When a Parkinson’s diagnosis came in 2019, serving the Lord and using his handyman hands became increasingly more difficult. While frustrating to him at times, together with his committed wife and caregiver, they handled the changing day-to-day challenges with grace and courage. Although not feeling well on November 27, 2021, Bob mustered the strength to join his bride and celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, the same day son Shea and his wife Malaina were married.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Jan, his two sons Shea Snyder (wife Malaina) and Shaun Snyder, sister Valeria Ann Redpath (husband Ron), cousins Neal Evinger and Joan Harling. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Madison Eckert (husband TJ) and Caleb, Gabriel and Gracie Vivona.
Our beloved husband, father and friend will be missed but we are overjoyed that Bob’s faith is now sight. A memorial service and graveside committal with military honors will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 Northwest Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162. A visitation for Bob will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with the family being present from 5 PM to 7 PM. In Bob’s memory, donations may be made to Harvest Hills Baptist Church, 9713 N. County Line Rd, Yukon, OK 73099.
