Robert Leroy “Bob” Chance, Sr., age 79, passed away May 20, 2013 in Oklahoma City. He was born October 9, 1933 in Soldier, Kansas to Ralph and Elsie (Bailey) Chance. Bob was the oldest of six children. After graduating high school he enlisted in the US Air Force serving our country during the Korean Conflict. Bob received the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and the Outstanding Unit Service Certificate. After four years of service, Bob was honorably discharged. He and Leona (Bragg) Chance married January 24, 1959, and celebrated 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.
Bob drove cross country truck for many years while raising his family and enjoying life. When he decided to get off the road he started a successful and rewarding refrigeration repair business relying on the electronics training he received in the service and his ability to fix most anything. His quick wit, infectious grin and loving to dance will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his children, James L. Chance of Story, AR, Nina and Rex Warr of Oklahoma City, OK, Robert L. Jr. and Patsy Chance of Buda, TX, Cheryl and Greg Carpenter of Cameron, OK and Debbie Chance of Morris, OK; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren with one great-great grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jim and Edna Chance of Topeka, KS, Maylene and Harold Williams of Lakin, KS, Linda and Jim Davis of Topeka, KS, Brenda and Tim Davis of Colorado Springs, CO, and sister-in-law, Jeaneane Chance of Mayetta, KS. Those preceding him in death were his parents, wife, Leona; brother, Darrel Chance; and granddaughter, Brittni Chance. Those wishing to honor Bob may do so by contributing to the American Parkinson Disease Association. Private family services for Bob will be held at a later date.
