Rick served in the United States Army beginning in 1965 for two years and the Army National Guard for four years. He was trained in field radio repair and weapons support radar repair. He was discharged on August 26, 1970 as a Specialist 5, 205 Sig. Co. Rick earned his GED, Bachelor of Arts from Carson-Newman College, certificates for dental radiography applications and equipment, maintenance of A-dec dental equipment and a Barber license. He was a successful entrepreneur working in several different businesses including electronics repair, Manager Trainee for JC Penney’s Auto, Rector Well Equipment Co., taught Karate to Police Officers and at Del City First Southern Baptist Church, and maintenance, repair and installation of dental equipment for Healthco Dental. He also owned businesses over the years including Rick’s Texaco and Rick’s Liquor Store in Oklahoma City, OK, and New Balance Style Shop in Edmond, OK. He was great at home repair and remodeling and if he didn’t know how to do something, he would research ways to accomplish the task and do it. He loved getting to know people, had a great sense of humor, and enjoyed teasing and joking with everyone.
Rick was born in Oklahoma City, OK on August 25, 1947. He is survived by the love of his life for 55 years, Janet S. Trent, his brother-in-Law, Jerry Thompson, his sister-in-Law, Kay and brother-in-Law Harley Mankins, his nephews, Dennis and niece Karen Gerner, Jimmy and niece Katie Gerner, Mark and niece Danielle Thompson, Barry and niece Ali Mankins, his nieces, Angela Thompson and Amy McKee. He is also survived by great nephews Joshua Gerner and Bailey Thompson, great nieces, Kristen and husband Lucas Thompson, Lacy Thompson, and several great great nephews and nieces.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Dorothy Lee Trent Jr., sisters Sandra Trent and Luana and brother-in-law John Gerner, his grandparents, William E and Dollie Trent Sr., and Guy Lee and Alva M. Glasco Amos.
Viewing will be held October 4, 2022, from 7 pm to 9 pm at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and funeral services will be October 5, 2022 at 10 a.m., Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 NW Expressway, with entombment following the funeral.
