Paul grew up in Oklahoma City and after marriage spent the majority of his life living in Norman. He married Pam Heath on February 24, 1979 and they went on to have two children and numerous dogs they treated as their children.
He attended Oklahoma State University where he majored in accounting and went on to become a CPA. He held several different types of accounting jobs through out his life including his own business and clients. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and make sure their needs were met.
He enjoyed playing baseball as a young adult and going to the lake to jet ski. He also loved keeping his yard in immaculate shape, often mowing it daily for years. He inherited from his dad his love of coin collecting. Anyone who knew him very long would end up with one of the newest released coins from the mint of their very own. He was really excited that his son, grandson, and son-in-law had shared his enthusiasm of coins with him.
He loved watching sports especially football and basketball then discussing it with his son. He loved history and biblical knowledge. He loved talking politics and spiritual things. He loved being outside on his porch, talking to anyone who was willing to stop and talk with him. He was known for his unique, constant humor and jokes that he’s passed down to his grandson.
He always had his kids and grandkids backs. He was always there for us all no matter what. Anytime, anything, anywhere, whether good or bad, we knew we could count on him for his support and to help us. He was extremely generous and taught us to give freely to others and try to find the best in everyone. He also was an excellent papa and has left a gaping hole that can never be filled in his grandson’s life.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; granddaughter Aubrey Flickinger; grandson Luke Flickinger; and grandson Landon Flickinger.
He is survived by his grandson, comedian sidekick, and dance partner, Lawson Flickinger of Edmond; daughter Abbie Flickinger and husband, Brad of Edmond; son Adam Ackerman and wife, Kenna of Norman; sister Ann Ackerman and husband, Wayne Stone of Oklahoma City; as well as many other family members and friends he deeply treasured.
