Patsy Lee McDowell was born to loving parents Ernest Edsall and Edith Gorby Edsall in Watonga, Oklahoma on September 9, 1939. Patsy entered eternal peace on November 29, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Patsy attended Wight Business School and worked as a Secretary for Renfroe Architect Company. She married the love of her life Merle Edwin McDowell on April 3, 1959. Together, the couple had two children Pamela and Mark and spent close to 40 years happily married before Merle’s passing on March 28, 1999.
Patsy was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Bethany Church. She loved old time church hymns, Carrie Underwood, and her all-time favorite, country music artist Vince Gill. Patsy would spend her Sunday’s watching Indy and Nascar races, often followed by a St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball or Thunder game. She even had her television set to let her know when Cardinal’s baseball and Thunder games would be coming on so she wouldn’t miss them. After Merle passed away she went with Pam and her family on every summer vacation getting to see the Ocean in Daytona for the first time, going to Disney and Universal and even taking tours of Daytona Speedway and Talladega Speedway. She looked forward to each summer and what new adventure she would be experiencing. She loved vacations to Branson and especially vacations in Gulf Shores where she could sit in the cool house and watch her family on the beach and watch the dolphins swim by. She attended all races at Texas Motor Speedway also. Her favorite color was purple, a color often associated with spirituality, ambition, and wisdom.
Patsy was the heart of her family. She taught her children and grandchildren to be strong, independent people and raised them to be the best they can be at all times. If you asked her what she loved most it was God and grandchildren. Patsy was a loving and doting grandma that attended everything she could to support them. She was called Grandma by all of her own grandchildren’s friends. She was constantly caring and pouring love into others. She would laugh at everything her grandkids did and said, especially Izzy. Patsy even had a “Granddog” JJ, who she had the family bring in every day to stay with her while they were away at work and school.
Patsy was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Edith Edsall, husband, Merle McDowell, brother, Ernest Edsall and sister-in-law Martha, sisters, Nona Mae Brandt, Elmira Scheffler, and bother-in-law Marvin, Bonnie Bode, and brother-in-law Walter, daughter-in-law Christine and brother-in-law Raymond Wright.
Left to cherish Patsy’s legacy are her children, Pamela McDowell-Ramirez, and husband, Rodolfo of Cashion, OK, Mark McDowell of Bethany, OK, brother, Earl Edsall, and wife, Janet of Watonga, OK, sisters, LaDonna Bond, and husband, Danny of Watonga, OK, Granetta Wright of Bixby, OK, grandchildren Abigail, and husband, Garrett Billen of Oklahoma City, OK, Diego Ramirez and fiancé, Hunter Jones of Oklahoma City, OK, Isabella Ramirez of Cashion, OK, and Michael McDowell of Bethany, OK, granddog JJ, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to her niece Liz who stayed with her so that Pam could do Mother of the Bride activities the day before and the day of her daughter’s wedding. And niece Janyce who was there in her final hours and gave Pam great comfort.
