N. Jean Terrell was an only child born to Paul H. Herndon and Norma E. (Little) Herndon, ROSS. They were friendly, caring, loving and giving parents. Jean was taught early that God is good and cares about everyone, especially her. She attended many schools since my father worked with oil, farm, and construction companies. She graduated from Central High School in Oklahoma City in 1946 and attended OCU for a while. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1946 until December 31, 1983. She began as an operator and advanced to Office District Level. She also worked for Humpty Dumpty Grocery Store from 1943-1946, meeting her wonderful husband there. She and Wilburn were married February 2, 1948, and had a great life together. One of the things they enjoyed most was being sponsors for singles for about 30 years. They had many singles who were really children/friends. They loved them very much. As the singles married, they were blessed with seven wonderful godchildren. They also enjoyed belonging to Surrey Hills Golf and Country Club. They enjoyed all the men and women in the club. Jean was President of the 18-Hole Ladies’ Group for a year. They went with their golf friends to many places. They also belonged to several Bridge groups. They had lots of fun and friendships playing golf and Bridge. Jean was active in the Oklahoma City Republican Women’s Club. She was a Caller for years and then became in charge of calling. She also became a First Lady in the Oklahoma Federation of Republican Women. Jean LOVED Jesus most of all. She served him in many ways in the four Methodist churches where she was a member, chairing many committees and teaching Sunday School and evening classes for many different groups. She made bread for first time visitors and sent cards to congregation members in need. Jesus was her best friend; He walked with her and talked with her many times every day. Jean was so THANKFUL for Jesus in her life, her husband, her family and friends. Life was interesting and fun. The celebration of Jean’s life will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at Putnam City United Methodist Church. EACH person that attends is invited to have brunch with the family, in Fellowship Hall, immediately after the service. NO flowers PLEASE. If you wish to remember Jean by a donation, please give to Putnam City UMC, 5819 NW 41st St, OKC, OK 73122, or the Boys Ranch in Gore, OK. Jean wishes you to remember that, “Life is not a race;” do take it slow, and hear the music before the song is over.
