Her parents were J.E. and Gertrude (Hutchens) Shaw. She passed from this life on December 30, 2024.
Norma was the youngest of four children and was loved and spoiled especially by her older sister Faye.
It is by a miracle and protection of God that Norma is alive. In fact, as a toddler, while unattended, she crawled into the coral and was stomped on by a cow. She had already turned blue by the time her father took her into the house. Thanks to her parents’ prayers and strong faith she had a full recovery.
She began school in a one room school in Canadian County and graduated from High School in Hinton, OK, she also attended SW State University.
She worked intermittently as a secretary for various agencies of the Federal Government.
She was married to Earl “Buck” Buchtel for almost 56 years. They enjoyed travelling and visited many countries. Together they lived in Atlanta, GA for 29 years. In 1987 they moved to Oklahoma City which became their permanent residence.
As her sister Faye’s health declined, Norma took her into her home, caring for her for 6 years, until Faye passed away in 2023.
She attended Bethany First Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl Buchtel, her sister Faye Shaw, her two brothers Elmer Elvus Shaw and Warren Curtis Shaw and additionally two nephews Wesley Allen Shaw and David Warren Shaw.
Norma was loved by many friends, extended family, and care givers, and will be missed dearly.
