Nancy Morse Cooley was born November 8, 1923 and died June 10, 2013. She lived her life in the house where she was born. Nancy raised four children there, sharing many childhood memories of how the " neighborhood use to be". As a child, Nancy played " kick the can" with her neighbors. She taught her children and then her grandchildren to play the game. Now her great grandchildren spend long summer evenings playing kick the can.
During World War II, Nancy worked summers at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs where she met her future husband, Tenal Cooley. She went back to finish a degree in speech pathology at Grinnell College in Iowa, while Tenal was shipped out to Europe. Two years later they were married in her childhood home on August 3, 1946. After 52 years of marriage, Tenal passed away in 1998.
Nancy loved to read and instilled that love in her children and grandchildren by reading books on long car trips. She was a moderator of discussion groups at the library and read books for the blind. She was a member of Acorn Book Club, many bridge groups, a 67 year member of Chapter AC, PEO and a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Frances and Agnes, and her grandson, Daniel. She is survived by her children, Becky and her husband, Wayne, Danna, Tenal III and his wife, Cindy, James and his wife, Janet, 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her beautiful snow white hair, sparkling blue eyes and her love of life. Because her stories live on, she will be forever in our hearts. The family appreciates Epworth Villa staff for the care, support and love they gave to her and her family.
Memorial Services will be 2:00PM, Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Presbyterian Church, OKC, Quality Life Hospice or the charity of your choice.
