Nadine Catlett obituary
We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and be present with the Lord.
—2 Corinthians 5:8 (KJV)
Naomi Nadine Sherrill was born March 2, 1926 in a rural community called Pikes Peak, just a few miles from Lindsay, Oklahoma. She attended the Pikes Peak community school in her primary years and later moved to the Cox City School from which she was graduated.
Shortly afterward in 1944 she moved to Oklahoma City and lived for a time with a lady in north Okc. Heritage Hills. The two attended the historic neighborhood assembly of Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church together.
Nadine worked diligently at several jobs including the old Wilson’s meat packing plant near Stockyards City. Later she found a position managing a small Christian bookstore for Assembly of God pastor Paul Riggs.
A male customer kept showing up to “check out the books.” It became clear shortly that he was checking out more than just books. Hoy Catlett and Nadine Sherrill married in 1955 and began a committed partnership of love and ministry in the forerunner congregation of Bethesda Assembly of God Church. They adopted a son, Timothy, in 1961.
The couple worked honorably as a team to serve and support Bethesda Assembly with the best of their resources through three pastors, three buildings, and three location names.
Nadine is survived by her son of Oklahoma City; a step-daughter, Linda Sanderson and her husband, Ralph of San Antonio, Texas. She also leaves behind two sisters - Mary Ann Archer and Betty Todd. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Clara Belle Sherrill and a brother, Frankie Sherrill, Nadine’s late brother.
Other survivors include a large host of individuals and families too numerous to mention by name. This list extends to Nadine’s grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many other cousins as well as other nieces, nephews and greats in Oklahoma, California and across the United States of America.
Nadine continued to attend and serve Bethesda Church until her physical health began a gradual deterioration in 2013 after the promotion of her husband.
She bravely and patiently fought her “final war with pain” beginning June 2, 2021.
Shortly after 11:00 PM - Saturday June 26, 2021 she likely ran - not walked - on new legs and full of youthful vigor - through gates of everlasting splendor - as death gave way to victory!
She is missed by many as a lady God trusted and through whom He made eternal impact.
“A life well lived is the most exquisite work of art.“
— Erwin McManus, pastor and author
Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
—Psalm 116:15
