Myron M. Blume

Myron Manley "Boxee" Blume, 85, died at home April 24, 2010. Myron was born November 30, 1924, in Burchard, Nebraska, to George F. & Nellie B. Blume. Myron graduated from Centralia High School at seventeen and joined the NAVY V-5 program. He separated from the service in October of 1945. Myron enrolled January 1946 at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and graduated in January 1950 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. He then went to work for Peter Kiewit & Son's Inc. of Omaha, Nebraska. In 1956 he went to work for H.D. Youngman Contractor out of Baxter Springs, Kansas, for 5 years. He went back to work for Kiewit in March 1961 in Oklahoma and then in July 1974 went into business for himself, Boxee, Inc., specializing in subcontracting of small drainage structures. He met Mary Ellen Buswell in 1955 while working on the Ohio Turnpike, and they married on January 7, 1956. Myron spent most of his spare time working in Masonry. He joined the Masons at Home Lodge #89 in Centralia in 1951. He was inactive for many years until joining Siloam Lodge #276 in Oklahoma City in 1970 and was Worshipful Master in 1978. Myron also belongs to the Scottish & York Rites and the Shrine. He is most active in the Masonic Degree team for the India Shrine, traveling the state, putting on the Degree work for smaller lodges. Myron was also a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City, and the Association of General Contractors. Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Blume, in 2005; and his son, Matthew David Blume. He is survived by his daughters: Mimi Davis and husband Alan, Mary Elizabeth Burkey and husband Michael, Valarie Blume and Angela Blume; grandsons: Josh and Ed Smith; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 4 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Grace United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be Saturday, May 1, at Mission Creek Cemetery, Pawnee County, Nebraska.
