Michael “Mike” William Nelson, 57, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in Yukon, OK. Mike was born on August 11, 1963 in Temple, TX to parents, J.C. and Helen Nelson.
In 1998, Mike met the love of this life, Stephanie and it wasn’t long before he knew that he had found his partner for life. Together, Mike and Stephanie were married for 21 blissful years. They grew their beautiful blended family of children, Melissa and Blake, with the addition of the birth of their daughter Lauren. Mike’s proudest moment was when he became a father, where his true passion became spending time with his family. From grilling, riding four-wheelers, down to just simple play-time with his grandchildren, he was a family man, through and through. A loving husband, father, pawpaw, brother, uncle, and friend, Mike will truly be missed by all.
When Mike wasn’t spending time with his family, there was only one other place you could find him...cheering on America’s Team, the Dallas Cowboys. The decked out Cowboys garage-turned man-cave, the endless supply of navy blue, silver and white apparel, to the customized lawn-mower, Mike could be described as a die-hard fan. It even got to a point where Stephanie had to coach Mike on when it would be appropriate to wear or not wear a Dallas Cowboy’s jersey! Attending NFL games were so special, and Mike got to do just that and make incredible memories with his family.
He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph (J.C.) Cleveland Nelson and mother, Helen Margaret (Setzer) Nelson, and infant son, Christopher Charles Nelson.
Mike is survived by his wife, Stephanie Anne (Rhoads) Nelson of Yukon, OK; daughters, Lauren Hartley and husband Dakota, of Yukon, OK, and Melissa Probst and husband, Jake of Guthrie, OK; son, Blake West and wife, Christine of Edmond, OK; brothers, Paul Nelson and wife, Renae of Oklahoma City, OK and Randy Nelson and wife, Sherry of Yukon, OK; sisters, Shelia Hill and husband, Calvin of Moore, OK and Theresa Moss and husband, Donny of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Haidyn, Lili, Hailey, Luke and Colt, four nieces and 10 nephews to cherish his memory.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 8701 N.W. Expressway, Oklahoma City, OK 73162. A funeral service in honor of Mike will take place on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
