Maxine Mildred Moore McReynolds passed away peacefully at age 87 on March 9, 2011. She was born March 21, 1923 in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Goldie Frances Willis and Alfred Marshall Moore. As her father was a bridge-builder throughout early day Oklahoma, the family moved frequently, with Maxine attending over 15 schools during her youth. The family settled in Chickasha, where she graduated from high school in 1941 as the class valedictorian. She cared for her ill mother rather than accept a scholarship to the Oklahoma College for Women. After her mother’s death, she attended Hills Business College. She subsequently worked as a secretary and retired after 20 years with the Reading Clinic at Central State University in Edmond.
During her retirement years, she spent many hours volunteering at nursing homes, church community closet and other charitable activities. She was a poll worker for many years with the county election board. Traveling to Europe and throughout the U.S. gave her many memorable experiences. A member of Britton Christian Church for over 60 years, Maxine was a fixture at many church activities. Most important to her was her family. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
Maxine married John Sherman McReynolds on December 2, 1945 in Oklahoma City. To their union were born four children. She was preceded in death by her husband John and her parents. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Dr. John (Rebekah) McReynolds of Apopka, FL; and Jo Anne (Michael) Hatley, Barbara (Kurtis) Atkinson and James (Anita) McReynolds, all of Edmond. Grandchildren include Dr. Theresa (J.P.) Shebalin of Raleigh, NC; William (Gina) McReynolds of Apopka, FL; Matthew (Tricia) Hatley of Arlington, TX; Dr. Mark (Ann) Hatley of Dallas, TX; Traci (Bryan) McGaha of Edmond; Angela (Wesley) Edwards of Stillwater, OK; Robert Atkinson of Austin, TX; Erin McReynolds and Nicholas McReynolds, both of Edmond. She also was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 14 at the Memorial Park Historic Chapel at 13400 N. Kelley, Oklahoma City, with internment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 N. Kelley, Oklahoma City on Sunday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family to receive friends from 3 – 5 p.m.
