My mother was born on March 17 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Allen Madison and Clyde Estelle Moore. She was the fifth of seven brothers and sisters.
My mother retired from the United States Postal Service in 1984 after 42 years of service with the United States Government. She lived in Washington, D.C., Quantico, VA, San Diego, and La Jolla, CA before making her permanent home in Oklahoma City.
She enjoyed spending time in our beautiful backyard, planting flowers every season, looked forward to seeing the roses and crepe myrtles bloom, and our redbud trees blossom. We loved to attend the Ballet, (The Nutcracker was her favorite), the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Pops concerts, and going to Branson to see Andy Williams perform at the Moon River Theater. She was a Lifetime Member of the Ladies Music Club. We enjoyed going to Dallas for long weekends, having lunch in the Zodiac Room at Neiman Marcus, and our trips to Galveston were filled with fun, looking for seashells, and souvenirs. We have many happy memories at The Galvez and The Flagship Hotels, and enjoyable dinners at The San Jacinto Inn.
My mother was preceded in death by her parents, all of her brothers and sisters, and her beloved husbands, Captain Hicks L. Stone, USMC and Timothy B. Turnbull.
She will be greatly missed and is survived by her daughter, Jan Elaine and her friend John Church Davis, along with many family members and friends whom she dearly loved.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to Louis H.A. Cox, M.D., Lisa M. Farhood, M.D., Steven P. Brantley, M.D., Ken Smith, M.D., and Kendrick Sunderland. I am thankful for the staff at Deaconess Hospital, our caregivers whose enormous help will never be forgotten, and the amazing staff with Physician’s Choice Hospice. Many, many thanks to everyone for the care, respect, and kindness that was given to my dear mother.
A service will be held in the Chapel at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 11:00 am.
Our family would be pleased if donations are made, in my mother’s honor, to Casady School, 9500 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
