Mary L. Merkle of Midwest City went to be with her Lord on August 4th, 2022. She was born in Doniphan, Missouri on December 27th, 1923. She was 98 years old. She was a veteran of WWII serving in the Women's Army Corp. She was a motor pool driver at Love Field in Dallas, Texas where she drove officers and visiting dignitaries while they were on base. She worked many years at the Public Supply Co., Macklanburg-Duncan, and the Sam's Club in the OKC metro area. She loved her church, her friends at her TOPS club, gardening, playing games, growing plants, OU & OSU sports and the St. Louis Cardinal baseball team. But most of all she loved her family, especially all of her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, R. L. and Carrie Hackworth of Moore; husband, James Merkle of MWC; sister, Mildred Herring and husband Johnnie of MWC; sister, Madonna Snyder and husband Lloyd of Lawton; brother, J. L. (Bud) Hackworth and wife Marilyn of OKC; sister, Maxine Straily of MWC; and son-in-law, Olen R. Sutton of Choctaw.
She is survived by her daughter, Roberta L. Sutton of Choctaw; son, Joe Steele and wife Judy of Del City; son, Kirk Hudson and wife Fran of Del City; as well as 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Bill Eisenhour NE Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Soldier Creek Baptist Church, 9020 SE 15th Street, Midwest City, OK 73130 under the direction of Reverend Chuck McDade.
