Mary passed away on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014. She was the second child born to Laurence and Edna Emma (Thode) Voelkers on June 19, 1919 in Belfield, N.D. She was the 19th grandchild. Mary moved with her family to Oklahoma in 1921. She walked about one mile to attend first grade at Pleasant Hill grade school. The family moved to Oklahoma City where she attended Culbertson, Webster Jr. High and graduated from Central High School in 1937. She attended Okla. A&M as a freshman and then attended Blockwood Davis Business School. Mary worked as a secretary for US Senator Mike Monroney in Washington, DC for 10 years. Later she worked for George Nigh in the Lt. Gov. and in the Governor’s office.
She was preceded in death by her husband Earl; her parents; two brothers Laurence Charles Voelkers and James Clifton Voelkers.
She is survived by her brother David Voelkers of Oklahoma City, OK; nephews and nieces James and Rhonda Voelkers of Bartlesville, OK, Gary Voelkers and wife Candance of Ponca City, OK, Linda McCurdy and husband Mark of Tuscan, AZ, and Janet Wentroth of Katy, TX. She is also survived by 12 great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mary Katherine Foster of Oklahoma City will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dr. Matt Meinke will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
