Martin Henry Welch, M.D. died, surrounded by his family, December 19, 2014 in Edmond, OK. He was born August 21, 1936 in Edgerton, WI. His was a life made meaningful by his family, the practice of medicine and his strong Catholic faith. Dr. Welch received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in 1958 and M.D. from the University of Wisconsin in 1961. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Anker Hospital in St. Paul, MN in 1966, completed his Fellowship in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN in 1966, and completed a residency and pulmonary disease training at the University of Oklahoma in 1968, and was on staff there until 1972. Dr. Welch was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was employed by the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, from 1972-1976, the University of Kansas, Wichita, from 1976-1986, and then the University of Oklahoma until his death. Dr. Welch played the clarinet and in recent years was a member of the Nichols Hills Band and the New Horizons Concert Band through the University of Oklahoma School of Music. Dr. Welch was preceded in death by his mother, Zyda Mae Price, and father, Walter August Welch, of Edgerton, WI. He is survived by his children, Julie, Michael, Martha and husband Shawn Nowlin and grandchildren Elizabeth and Spencer Nowlin; and Mary and husband Bryan Boy. His family will always be grateful to his colleagues and friends at the OU Health Sciences Center for the support and care he received. Visitation will be held at Hahn-Cook, 6600 Broadway Ext in Oklahoma City, 12-8pm on Monday, December 22, 2014, with family present between 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Hahn-Cook. Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City. Memorial donations can be made to the University of Oklahoma Medical Center for the benefit of the Pulmonary Department. .
