Martha Christine (Edards) Henson, age 77, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2020. Arrangements are under the direction of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services. A celebration of life has been scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 10:00am at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S. Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73159.
Martha was born July 11, 1942 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Pansy (Miller) Edards and Columbus Bunch Edards. Martha was raised in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and attended Pauls Valley High School. She was a quiet person, but greatly made up for it with her sharp mind. Martha was a very bright person, and even had a full mathematics scholarship lined up for her after High School to attend the University of Oklahoma. Due to hardships, she left High School just before senior year to enter the workforce. Martha enjoyed several hobbies throughout her life, which included quilting, crafts, embroidering and flower arranging. She was gifted, and had an incredible eye for patterns and colors. Through her church, she was a founding member of the sewing club, and made many prayer quilts over the years for those in need. Another hobby Martha enjoyed was square dancing. In 1997, she attended the International Square Dancing Convention in San Antonio, TX, where she met her husband, Norman. On March 1, 1997, they were married, and settled in Oklahoma City. Being the smart, hard working woman that she was, Martha excelled at her career. She served as a high-tech laborer at Xerox for many years. In March of 2004, she decided it was time to retire to spend her days enjoying the company of Norman and Harley, the family Schnauzer. Martha is survived by her husband, Norman Robert Henson; step sister Marie of Oklahoma. Martha was preceded in death by father Columbus Bunch Edards and mother Pansy (Miller) Edards. A memorial service for Martha will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Southern Hills Baptist Church, 8601 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73159.
