Marilyn Yvonne Abbott was born on Aug 3, 1935 in Roberta, OK. She was raised in the Roberta area and attended Blue High School where she excelled at basketball. She would go on to graduate from Capitol Hill High School in OKC. In 1955 she married the love of her life, Junior Barton and she dedicated her life to raising their three children. In 1974 the family relocated from OKC to Moore, where she resided the rest of her life. Sadly, Junior Barton passed away in 2003 after 48 years of marriage to Marilyn.
Marilyn was a feisty and strong-willed woman who loved to watch sports. She was a die-hard OU football, basketball, and softball supporter. She was the OKC Thunder’s #1 fan and never missed an opportunity to watch a game and cheer them on. She had a quiet and sweet personality and she was extremely protective of her family. Marilyn was a gifted cook and her family always enjoyed eating her banana pudding, beans and cornbread, stew, and chicken and dressing. Family was always her top priority and nothing made her happier than spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Marilyn was a caring mother, a loving sister, a proud nanny, and a trusted friend. She made an unmistakable mark on the lives of all she touched and she will certainly be missed by all who knew her.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents: Remus and Lola (Damren) Abbott; her husband and best friend, Junior Barton; brothers: Mel, Charlie, Pete, Bobby, and Dude Abbott; sisters: Anita Newman and Jo Barton.
She is survived by her three children: David Barton and wife Joni, Karen Lassiter, and Keith Barton; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Buxton, Shannon Irwin, Shaun Barton, Alan Barton, Traci Badberg, Jessica Lassiter, and Staci Barton; 11 great grandchildren: Brittany, Bailey, Shelbi, Samuel, Ethan, Jaycee, Samantha, Aiden, Serena, Rowyn, and Reece. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
