I had Mrs Zion as my homeroom teacher for 6th grade. I think it was about the year 1973 or 1974. We were housed in a portable building right off the south parking lot at Windsor Hills. All the 6th graders were in groups- Mrs. Zion allowed us to name ourselves & since my group came to her class for science at 1:00- we took the name “omniscient ones.” I remember she always had animals in the room. A turtle at one time, frogs, & even a hamster. She brought hay from her home & added it to tap water. After a few days we learned how to use a microscope to see what we could find in the water- I was hooked. This was one of the pivotal moments in my life because I learned to love science. I majored in Biomedical Science at OSU & received my masters in Curriculum & Instruction specializing in secondary science. Two years ago I retired from the Wichita Falls ISD after teaching high school Biology I, Pre-AP Biology, AP Biology, Pre-AP Human Anatomy & Physiology for 23 years. I have been the Curriculum Specialist for Secondary Science since 2001, with my oldest son now serving in the same role. My daughter is an AP Biology teacher at Edmond Memorial. I have nothing but fond memories of Mrs. Zinn. She always had a kind, calm disposition & allowed us to make a lot of our own decisions. Without her influence, I would probably have not fallen in love with science & education.

I’m so sorry to hear of Mari’s passing. Would have loved to have been at the service but like so many of the students she influenced ,  my life  took me quite a distance from our classroom in Sequoyah. We had a very special class. So special that we had reunions and still stay in touch. Don was in our class and I know he will miss her greatly and I send him my condolences along with the rest of her family.

Mari was instrumental in me becoming an artist and gaining confidence in all aspects of my life. She selected the perfect vocation, and was a living testament of how important a teacher can be to so many children. She appeared in my life at just the right time and I’ll carry a piece of her in my heart for the rest of my days.

Mari was an especially kind and unassuming soul. The sort of New Person CS Lewis describes in "Mere Christianity".  She was free from the cancerous mass of insecurities and resentments most of us carry around. You picked up on her quiet but certain faith within minutes and she may have said only ten words. She was authentic, an image of Christ.  Deepest sympathy and condolences to her family.

I am so sorry to  hear of precious Mrs. Zinns passing. She was my fifth grade teacher at Windsor Hills. Wayyyy back in 1974! I always knew how much she loved me! She was the kindest, most loving teacher! Her encouragement and her tender heart is something I will never forget.  Christ in her life was evident to me, even as a  fifth grader. What a blessing to have had her in my life.

Mrs. Zinn was an amazing science teacher at Windsor Hills. She taught my sixth grade science class in 1975-1976.  I still think about all that I learned from her.  It was one of the best educations.  Windsor Hills was the best school available.  She was a great example of excellence!  She also was very nice.  I was in Mr Morrow's home room.  He was also great!  So sorry to hear she passed.  RIP Mrs. Zinn!
