Marian Oliver left to be with her Father in heaven on July 8, 2015. Marian Lenore Kelly was born September 9, 1923, in Madison, Kansas. Marian was the older child and only daughter of Hugh David Kelly and Clara Ellen Rayl Kelly. Born prematurely at home, she weighed just three pounds, but what she lacked in size she made up in spirit. Three and a half years after her birth, her brother Billy (Billy David Kelly) joined the family. Marian was a majorette in the Putnam City High School Marching Band and graduated as the salutatorian from Putnam City High School in 1941. She attended Oklahoma A&M until meeting the love of her life, Robert Wesley Oliver (Bob), then transferred to the University of Oklahoma. She and Bob were united in marriage on January 24, 1943, a union that would last until his death seventy-one years later. Together, the couple raised four children: Robert Wesley Oliver II, Suzanne Marie (Oliver) Green, Gerald Raymond Oliver, and Kathleen Louise Oliver. Marian was fundamental in the establishment of their company, Shield Manufacturing Corp. She and her husband were active in their churches: Putnam City Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Oklahoma City, OK; Waterloo Baptist Church, Edmond, OK; and Calvary Evangelical Free Church, Pelican Rapids, MN. Marian was a member of the ‘Treasured Antique Club’ in Edmond, OK, and enjoyed collecting antiques. She was also an avid and accomplished seamstress, and with her husband, raised and showed orchids as members of the Oklahoma Orchid Society. In 2001, Marian and Bob moved to Pelican Rapids, MN, and once again became active members of their community. They developed deep and lasting relationships among their church friends, greatly enjoyed company and family, and always kept a lovely, flower-filled front porch.
Marian is survived by her four children, twenty-two grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren. She is preceded by her husband Bob, parents Hugh and Clara Kelly, brother Billy, and one grandchild.
