Marian Gaye Beavers, 89, of Oklahoma City, OK, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Savior, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, February 6, 2023. “Mimi”, as she was affectionately known by all, was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Leta and Clarence Chambers on June 15, 1933. She spent most of her wonderful childhood in Chickasha with her parents and older brother Clint. However, some three years after her father passed away, Marian and her mother moved to Oklahoma City. It was there that Mimi graduated from Classen High School in 1951. After graduation, Marian followed Clint to Baylor University to obtain her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing. Going year round to school for four years, Marian graduated in the Spring of 1955 and began work teaching at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. It was there that she met her future husband and the father of her three children, Debra, James, and John.
For the next 21 years, Mimi cherished being a devoted wife and loving mother. Her other roles at this time included Cub Scout den mother, PTA president, school volunteer, and an active member of Mayfair Church of Christ. During her free time, she enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, gardening, and sewing. A master seamstress, Mimi enjoyed making clothing, costumes, and curtains, just to name a few of her creations.
In 1977, Marian decided that she wanted to get back into nursing. She began her career as a floor nurse working the night shift while simultaneously pursuing a Master’s in Nursing Administration. This catapulted her into the role of Director of Nursing and later Vice President of Patient Care at Mercy Health Center. She retired in 1999, but not for long, as she continued to work part time in the convent caring for retired sisters.
Mimi’s retirement was rich with endless adventures. She loved to travel with her special friend Bob. Together they explored every state in the United States and drove across Canada from Vancouver, British Columbia to Prince Edward Island. She also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with her son John and her daughter Debra. In addition to traveling, Mimi created costumes for Putnam City West High School’s musical theater productions for several years. Finally, Mimi loved her church family and other wonderful friends. She was particularly close to the women in her Bible classes and her bridge group.
Mimi was blessed with an amazing capacity to love, nurture, and serve. She had a wonderful bedside manner, comforting many families that came through Mercy. She provided wise counsel in a caring and loving way. Her soft spoken encouragement blessed all those who crossed her path. She had a deep love for her church and her Mayfair church family. They blessed her life for over 60 years. But her ultimate love was focused on her beloved family; her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Mimi was preceded in death by her mother Leta Chambers, father Clarence Chambers, and brother Dr. Clint Chambers. She is survived by her children, Debra (Jon) Yeagley, James (Sarah) Beavers, Dr. John (Grise) Beavers; grandchildren Anne (Ted) Ledbetter, Carleton Yeagley, Kevin (Taylor) Yeagley, Dr. Christine Beavers, Dr. Kimberly Beavers (Dr. Farhad Omoumi), Emily (Blake) Brennan, Edwin Africano, and Ronald Africano; great-grandchildren Lucy Ledbetter, Jon Albert Ledbetter, Parker Ledbetter, Camryn Yeagley, Tripp Yeagley, Baby Yeagley, Jonas Omoumi, and Henry Brennan; sister-in-law Siva Chambers; nephew Cliff Chambers and his children Christopher and Catherine; niece Tida (Bo) Bostrom; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home in Oklahoma City on Thursday, February 9 from 5 to 8 o’clock in the evening.
Funeral services will be held at Mayfair Church of Christ in Oklahoma City on Friday, February 10th at 10 o’clock in the morning, followed by a private interment in Chickasha.
In lieu of flowers, Mimi requested that her loved ones donate to the Mayfair Church of Christ Missions 2340 N.W. 50th OKC, OK 73112.
