María Castañón Estrada nació el 5 de febrero de 1943 en Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, México de José Castañón Juárez y Francisca Gómez Ramírez. Se movió a Oklahoma en el año 1968, donde comenzó a criar a su familia. Al principio, la adaptación fue difícil porque María no podía hablar inglés. A través de los años, ella misma aprendió a leer y escribir en inglés, para ayudar a sus hijos en la escuela.
María era conocida por ser una madre y abuela amorosa y cariñosa. Amaba profundamente a su familia y disfrutaba pasar tiempo con ellos. Disfrutaron de muchos buenos recuerdos juntos, especialmente cuando contaban chistes y se lo pasaban en grande. María disfrutó estar en el lago, hacer jardinería y enseñar a sus hijos a cocinar. También amaba la música y disfrutaba bailando con sus amigos. Escuchaba todo tipo de música, pero disfrutaba mucho de las rancheras y los corridos.
Le precedieron en la muerte sus esposos, Matias Rivera Ramirez y Rafael Estrada Zamarripa, hijo, Jimmy Rivera, hermano Theodero Castañon Gomez y bisnieto, Armani Rafael Rivera. Deja atrás a sus hijos, Diana Rivera de Oklahoma City, OK, David Rivera y su esposa Cynthia de Defiance, IA, y Maribel Rivera Galvez de Ciudad Acuña, MX; 9 nietos, Kristen Rivera, Andrew Rivera, Joshua Rivera, Samuel Rivera, Eric Rivera, Daniel Galvan, Blanca Estela Galvan, Jose Antonio Mata y Maria Guadalupe Mata; hermana, Ramona Rodríguez y una gran cantidad de sobrinas, sobrinos y amigos. Su familia y amigos extrañarán mucho a María.
Maria Castañon Estrada was born on February 5, 1943 in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico to Jose Castañon Juarez and Francisca Gomez Ramirez. She moved to Oklahoma in 1968, where she began to raise her family. In the beginning, the adjustment was hard because Maria couldn’t speak English. Through the years, she taught herself how to read and write in English, to help her children through school.
Maria was known to be a loving, caring mother and grandmother. She loved her family deeply, and enjoyed spending time with them. They enjoyed many great memories together, especially when they were cracking jokes and having a great time. Maria enjoyed being out at the lake, gardening and teaching her children how to cook. She also loved music and enjoyed dancing with her friends. She would listen to all types of music, but she really enjoyed Rancheras and Corridos.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, Matias Rivera Ramirez and Rafael Estrada Zamarripa, son, Jimmy Rivera, brother Theodero Castañon Gomez and great-grandson, Armani Rafael Rivera. She leaves behind her children, Diana Rivera of Oklahoma City, OK, David Rivera and his wife Cynthia of Defiance, IA, and Maribel Rivera Galvez of Ciudad Acuña, MX; 9 grandchildren, Kristen Rivera, Andrew Rivera, Joshua Rivera, Samuel Rivera, Eric Rivera, Daniel Galvan, Blanca Estela Galvan, Jose Antonio Mata and Maria Guadalupe Mata; sister, Ramona Rodriguez and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Maria will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A come-and-go visitation / visitacion for Maria will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Service-South Chapel, 7720 South Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73159. A funeral mass / misa de funeral will occur Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2706 S Shartel Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73109. A burial / entierro will occur Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, 500 Southwest 104th St., Oklahoma City, OK 73139.
