Lucy Belle “Billie” Guttery was born on October 16, 1921 in Broken Bow, Oklahoma to Jose Belle Reed Coleman and Benjamin Franklin Coleman. She departed this life on October 16, 2017 in Seal Beach, California surrounded by her loving family. Billie was 96 years old. Billie was the 5th of 9 children. She was raised in Oklahoma City where she also attended school. On May 20, 1939 she married the love of her life Edward “Ed” Lee Guttery. The two spent 48 wonderful years together, before his death in 1987. Their love was something special and from that love they were blessed with 8 children. Of the 8 children, there were 4 girls and 4 boys. Billie always loved the fact the girl’s names all started with J (Janet, Jo Ann, Judy, Jeanice) and the boy’s with an E (Edward, Earl, Eric, Ernie). Always supportive and encouraging, she was so proud of all her children. Billie’s one great passion was cooking. She and Ed managed a Lodge in the Arbuckle’s where she did the cooking for many hungry visitors. She also worked as a cook at Baker’s Drug in Nicoma Park, as well as, Henry Hudson’s on NW 50th in OKC. Billie knew just how to make people happy and that was with her great cooking. Her son’s would often ask her to make pies for them to take to office functions and she never hesitated. Her pies made everyone happy! She made several trips to California so she could be with her daughters and help with her grandchildren. She even made a trip to Berlin, Germany so she could welcome and help care for her new granddaughter. Family meant the world to her and she would travel to the ends of the earth for them. Billie was a longtime resident of Autumn House II in Midwest City, OK. She resided there for 23 years, before moving to California to be closer to her daughters. During her stay at Autumn House, she would volunteer her time to collect food for the hungry and would cook for her neighbors when they were sick. She made many friends and it was hard to say goodbye, but family always came first to Billie. She is preceded in death by: her parents, sisters Mary Lee Coleman, Mamie B. Coleman, Sallie Helen Crews, brothers Benjamin, Jessie Frank and John H. Coleman and granddaughter Lindsay Guttery.
