Lillian Doris Carter was born in Atlanta, Georgia on May 13, 1912 to William Russell and Belle Guest Scudder and passed away at age 99 on Friday, August 12, 2011 after a brief illness. Doris’ family moved to Dallas, Texas and then came to Oklahoma City in 1930 just after Doris graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas. For the next 10 years she worked several jobs and then went to work for Mack Trucks as a bookkeeper for 22 years. Doris married Robert D. Carter on May 13, 1967. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband as he worked in Oklahoma and Arkansas. After his death in 1982 she had the opportunity to travel to foreign countries with her sister, Ann and Ann’s husband. Doris has been an active member of Olivet Baptist Church since 1967 and faithfully taught Sunday School, attended services and was a member of the Women’s Mission Society. She lived her faith on a daily basis. Doris was full of life and love and she kept people laughing with her witty remarks. She was a delight to be around. Until the end she managed her own finances to the penny. Doris grew up in hard times and helped her parents through the depression so she took good care of her money yet was very generous to family and friends in need. A couple of years ago Doris moved into assisted living and hated most giving up her cat, PeeWee. Doris missed her home but never was one to complain and always tried to find the positive in situations and in people. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; her brother, William Russell, Jr. and her dear sister, Annie Dummeyer. Doris is survived by good friends, Loy and Karen Lockwood; nephews, William Russell Scudder III, Thomas Lee Scudder, Robert D. Johnson, Richard D. Johnson; her niece Veronica Farris and their children and grandchildren plus many good friends. Well will miss her greatly and the family would like to thank Heritage Nursing Home for all the care they have given her. Visitation will be held Sunday, from 8AM-8PM at Guardian West Funeral Home. Services are10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Olivet Baptist Church with burial to follow Rose Hill Burial Park.
