Larry was the fourth and last child and only boy born to Ruby Smith Coldiron and Levi "Cook" Coldiron at their home in Ninnekah, Oklahoma near Rush Springs, Oklahoma. He and his sisters helped their parents sustain the family farm where he grew up. He was especially close to his mother who instilled in him his values and love for family. He married the love of his life, Dena Yvonne Wyatt, in 1952 and they were married fifty-five years until her death in 2007. Though very young, they provided for themselves, raised three children and became the cornerstone for their entire extended families.
Larry worked as a brick mason for the Oklahoma City Board of Education for forty three years until his retirement in 1995. Larry loved children and was a baseball and football coach for his boys, well loved and remembered by all the boys that he coached, making a difference by example in his children's' grandchildren's' and other young lives. It was not unusual to hear his family and others say that he was the best man they ever knew.
He was a man of few words, therefore an excellent listener, so when he did speak it was worth paying attention. Some of his memorable sayings were "Education is something nobody can take away from you." "Hold on, it will all work out." "You can't work things out if you don't stay together", "There's nothing like family!" And many others. He was light hearted, likeable, reliable, first to volunteer and steadfast in his values.
He was proud to be a member of the Freemasons Lodge, and the Bell Isle congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his three sisters, and his two sons, Wyatt Coldiron and Larry Don Coldiron. He is survived by his daughter, Jo Ellen Meister and husband Cary Meister; daughter-in-law, Peggy Heavner; grandchildren: Drew Millburn and wife Melody, Mitch Millburn and wife Maria, Robert Steuber and wife Stephanie, Colton Coldiron, Madeline Meister, and Raegan Meister; step-grandchildren: Fletcher Johnson and Morgan Murray and husband Blake Murray; and great-grandchildren: Beckham Johnson, Cora Hilyard, Levi Coldiron Millburn, Blake Millburn, Allison Steuber, Patrick Steuber, and Everette Murray.
His Memorial will be October 19, 2017, 2:00pm at Memorial Park Historic Cemetery Chapel, 13400 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK. All who knew him are invited. The family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
