Our precious mom, memo, and memo great, Lee O. (Stewart) Henderson, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011. She was born August 22, 1918 in Marlow, Oklahoma, to Lula V. Braddy Stewart and Elbert Stewart. She was the oldest of five children. Lee grew up in the Capitol Hill/ OKC area. After graduating from Capitol Hill High School she attended business college. She then proudly worked in Washington D.C. for the FBI during WWII. Lee returned home to Oklahoma City and established her working career. She worked at Oklahoma Business News for fifty-five years where she became known as "BIG CHIEF LEE". Lee loved to cook and entertain her beloved family and friends. She was always good for a hot meal. She was a longstanding member of Wesley United Methodist Church and loved to talk about her faith.
Lee married James Henderson May 28, 1944. They devoted their lives to one another for the next 67 years. They were always together, as she always took great care of him. She loved to talk about Jim and her beautiful, creative, daughters Lou Anne and Dana. Her precious Jim preceded her in death just this past September 21, 2011.
Lee was the family matriarch and will be greatly missed by her loving family.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands Lou Anne and Paul Mercer, and Dana and Kevin Moore. She was blessed by grandchildren Steve and Monica Mercer, Sherri and Brent Stephens, Meghan, Mitchell, Marshall, and Michael Moore, and six great-grandchildren Josie, Josh, and Jace Vinyard, and Blake, Will, and Emily Mercer as well as many nieces and nephews, whom she spoke of often and loved very much.
Her precious spirit is now with Jim and her parents and siblings.
The family will receive guests at Hahn-Cook funeral home on Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
She will be remembered Friday, December 9, 2011, 10 a.m., at the Resurrection Cemetery Chapel.
