Leah Mignon Putty Albers

Leah Mignon Putty Albers, 88, a long-time resident of Oklahoma City, died on April 26, 2012. She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Donald D. Albers. She is survived by her children: Leah Albers and husband Tom Roberts of Albuquerque, NM; Paul Albers and wife Leigh Ann Albers of Oklahoma City, OK; Dede Albers of Arlington, MA; and Sue Ann Lawrence and husband Bart Lawrence of Ipswich MA; and her five adored grandchildren Brian Lawrence and Kara Lawrence Taylor (who married Zach Taylor), Leah and Kate Henoch, and Donald B. Albers.

Mignon was born on October 12, 1923 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Leah Daugherty Putty and Paul Gowan Putty. Her brother, Paul Gowan Putty, Jr. was born the following year. She attended Oklahoma State University and graduated cum laude in the summer of 1944 with a major in home economics. While in college she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. After college she attended a training program in Occupational Therapy (OT) at Milwaukee-Downer College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She married Dr. Donald Dean Albers on August 12, 1946 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1947 the couple moved to Rochester, Minnesota for Dr. Albers to begin a urology residency at the Mayo Clinic. Mignon worked in OT at Mayo until her first child was born in 1948. After Don completed his residency in 1950, the family moved to Oklahoma City where Dr. Albers joined the Oklahoma City Clinic.

Mignon was busy raising children for many years, but this did not preclude involvement in numerous community organizations. A member of Crown Heights Christian Church for over 60 years, Mignon taught Sunday school, delivered meals-on-wheels for over 20 years, and served several terms as a Deaconess. She was active in Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader, on the Executive Committee, and as Treasurer of the Girl Scout Council. She was PTA president at both the Nichols Hills elementary school and the John Marshall junior-senior high school when her children were students there. She was a long time member of the Medical Auxiliaries of Wesley Hospital and later, Presbyterian Hospital. She has been a board member of the Northside YMCA. She is a member of a Sewing Club of loyal friends that started in 1962 and still has monthly meetings. She was a founding member of a book club called O-Kee-Pa.

Mignon will be remembered for her sweet nature and generosity of spirit; for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; and for always visiting her children in the far-flung and unusual places they have lived and worked over the years. She taught her loved ones to honor every milestone in life and be grateful for small blessings. A Celebratory Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on June 21st at Crown Heights Christian Church, 4020 N. Western, Oklahoma City.
