Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Cecil Kent Rogers, entered the arms of Jesus on June 24, 2023, shortly after his 84th birthday. Kent was born to Cecil and Mary Rogers in Oklahoma City on June 2, 1939. He grew up in Oklahoma City with his sister Gayle and numerous family and friends. After graduating from Classen High School, he attended OSU, graduating with a degree in business in 1962. Kent then joined his father and uncle in the family insurance business and worked as an independent insurance agent until his retirement in 2004. Kent was blessed with many lifelong friends and traveled on numerous fishing trips to Alaska and Mexico with his best friends Russel Brawley and Jim Mosley. Due to his love of fishing, Kent and his wife Carolyn owned cabins on Lake Tenkiller and on Table Rock Lake in Branson, where they spent many years boating and fishing with family and friends. Kent also enjoyed golf and played several times a week. Kent and Carolyn and Candy and Jim Mosley often went on trips throughout the United States to play golf, stopping at whatever course looked interesting. Kent also loved dogs and his beloved dog Sandy was trained as a therapy dog. Kent’s parents were members of St. Luke’s Methodist church before Kent’s birth and Kent was a lifetime member of St. Luke’s, attending the Upper Room Sunday School class where he made wonderful friends. Kent and Carolyn cooked and drove for Mobile Meals at St. Luke’s. The homebound were always excited to see Kent because he always took time to talk with each person. When St. Luke’s started their Stephen’s Ministry program, Kent was one of the first to take the training to become a Stephen Minister and to minister to people in need.
When Kent was a teenager, he met Nancy Siegers at MYF at St. Luke’s and they dated throughout junior high, high school, and college, marrying at St. Luke’s. They had two sons, Brian and Brad, and one daughter, Nanciann. Nancy had the first heart transplant in the state of Oklahoma in 1985 and passed away shortly after the transplant. In 1988 Kent met Carolyn Armstrong at the Church of the Servant while both were instructors in a Grief After Loss Seminar. They married in June of 1989 and enjoyed 34 wonderful years together.
Kent’s parents, first wife Nancy, and son Brian preceded him in death. He leaves those he loved most: wife Carolyn, daughter Nanciann/David, son Brad/DJ, stepson James Armstrong, stepdaughter Denna Armstrong, grandsons Jon and David/Daisy, sister Gayle Pierce, step-grandchildren: Trevor, Allyson, and Blaine Armstrong and Cassie Bishop/Rick, five great-step-grandchildren, sister-in-law Jerri Goehler, niece Debbie Doran/John, and numerous friends. Due to Kent’s deep faith in Jesus we feel assured he is now enjoying a game of golf with old friends in heaven. Memorial donations may be sent to True Friends Animal Rescue at P.O.
