Kenneth “Bodie” Stewart Stinson, Jr. was born in Shattuck, OK on Feb. 14, 1957 to the late Kenneth S. Stinson and Patricia Faye (Savoy) Richards. Ken grew up in Buffalo, OK and attended Buffalo Public Schools. In high school Ken was involved in every sport the school offered as well as many extra curricular activities including being Secretary of the FFA. In his senior year he participated as President of the FFA Debate Team which won 2nd in the state competitions. He also received many awards which included earning the State of Oklahoma Future Farmer of America and earning the position of Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Ken graduated in the Class of 1975.
Ken attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater receiving a BS Degree in Petroleum Engineering Technology. At age 18 Ken started roughnecking on the oil rigs in the summers to pay for the following school year. While taking college classes in 1978 he met his wife Vicki from Tulsa. They married in January 1982 after they both graduated from OSU and Edmond became their new home town. They divorced, but God restored their marriage back to each other in September 1985. One of his proudest moments was when their son, David, was born in 1991.
Ken’s career accomplishments began with roughnecking in Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, and Wyoming. After college he worked for Bonray Drilling until the bust. At that time he started working for Chermac Energy for 22 years as a contractor in land work, and promoting various oil field projects from 1984-1991 until becoming Vice-President of Chermac Metrology Labs from 1991-2006. Then Ken became a Private Oilfield Consultant for Chaps Oilfield until April 2011 when he was diagnosed with cancer.
While attending Bridgeway Church he and his family enjoyed Precept Bible Studies and Community Groups with many dear friends that deeply blessed his life. Outside of his career and church Ken enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. He also was a member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers. His friends and family knew him as an intelligent, sweet, gentle, ambitious, and caring man that was willing and able to help at any time.
Ken was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Stewart Stinson and step-father Hal L. Richards. Ken leaves as his survivors his wife Vicki and son David. Also are his grandmother Mildred VanDeburgh, his mother Pat Richards, his sister Larisa Howell, his brother Duane Stinson, and step-mother Patsy Stinson all of Buffalo, OK. Also nephew Chris Howell of Owasso, OK and niece Jennie Howell of Atlanta, GA.
Services are on Wednesday, September 24 at 11:00a at Bridgeway Church located at 228 West Hefner Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73114.
