Kenneth D. Humphrey passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. Kenneth was an honorable, considerate, hard-working, Christian man, who will be greatly missed. He was a perfect gentleman, a thoughtful, supportive, committed husband and father, who always put his family first. Ken was outgoing; he never met a stranger, and had a great sense of humor. He and Lou lived life to the fullest.
Kenneth was born October 30, 1925, in Prague, Oklahoma to Lewis Edward and Mary Ann Humphrey and was the youngest of eight children. He had so many fond memories of his childhood and family. Upon graduation from high school, he moved to San Francisco to find employment. He worked as a welder in the shipyards, and it was there he was drafted into the Army in 1944. He served in Europe during World War II as a Technical Sergeant, 280th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was decorated with 3 bronze stars, among other medals. After discharge, Ken went to school to become a funeral director. While working in Chickasha, he met Lou. They were married November 19, 1948. He later ended that career, but always kept his license. He then entered the accounting field, and then went into sales, where he enjoyed a long, successful career.
After a brief retirement, Ken again worked in the funeral home business. He joined the staff at Hahn-Cook and truly enjoyed his time working there. He and Lou enjoyed travelling, watching sports events, and spending time with their family. They rarely missed an OU football game.
Kenneth and Lou were long-time members of Grace United Methodist Church.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Lou. Ken is survived by his daughter Beverly Lackey and husband, Paul, Edmond; son, Richard Humphrey, Oklahoma City; grandson, Christopher Lackey and wife Lori, Piedmont; granddaughter, Lisa Gorman and husband, Brent, Boise, Idaho; great-granddaughters, Kelsey Lackey and Mallory Lackey, Piedmont; and great grandson, Miles Gorman, Boise, Idaho and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Autumn Leaves of Edmond and Sooner Hospice for all of their loving care and support they gave to Ken and his family.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Monday, November, 13 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
