Katie is survived by her husband, Bob; her sons Bart and Brett; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl; and her grandchildren, Russell, Ava, and Kya. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tamara; her parents, Samuel and Cordelia; and her two terriers, Gucci and Molly.
Katie was born in January 1947, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She became an exceptional scholar, receiving two master’s degrees in speech pathology and learning disabilities. As a special needs teacher in public schools and later as the first director of the Payne Foundation, Katie served as a passionate advocate, helping people with disabilities gain confidence in their ability to communicate.
Katie was a supportive and loving mother of three young children when she met Bob, the love of her life, in 1980. They enthusiastically married in 1982. Bob and Katie’s love gave them the foundation for a life and legacy that will last through the ages. Nothing brought Katie more joy and pride than seeing the successes of her loved ones.
Katie was known for her sharp wit, eternal beauty, and magnetic charm as well as her uniquely glamourous style. She loved high fashion, dancing, traveling to Las Vegas and New York, and she could never resist an opportunity to celebrate life. Above all, she loved her family and her adoring husband of forty years, Bob McDonough. Katie left a mark in this world that will never fade.
We love you, Katie, our sweet wife, mom, Gigi, and friend. You will forever be missed. Rest in Peace.
