HULSEY, Karen Ann (Bennett), was born September 16, 1945 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Jack T. Bennett and Naomi Mavis (Seaton) Bennett. After a long struggle with cancer, she passed away on the morning of July 17, 2019 in Surprise, Arizona.
Karen married Donald W. Hulsey in January of 1970. Karen loved being a grandmother and will be remembered for her generosity, creativity, and caring nature.
Karen lived a full life of service and giving to others whether it was to the premature and severely ill babies and their families she cared for as a neonatal nurse practitioner, her family and friends, or her church family. She loved cooking, sewing, art, traveling, music, gardening, football, and creating traditions and memories for her family that will survive long after her death for generations to come. Karen enjoyed her family’s annual vacations. Her family was fortunate to have had a final family trip to Utah during the summer of 2018, which she enjoyed immensely. Karen was a remarkable cook and seamstress as well as an exceptionally gifted pianist and member of her church choir for many years. She passed down her love of art and music to her children and grandchildren as well. Karen enjoyed preparing meals and baked goods for her family, especially during the holidays. Many family traditions are centered around special events that Karen planned for her loved ones throughout the years. She made sure that every birthday and holiday was unique and special for everyone in her life. She was a dedicated Oklahoma Sooners football fan, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the games with her husband every Saturday afternoon.
Karen and her husband lived in five different states throughout their marriage. She was able to make anywhere home and lived the “bloom where you’re planted” mentality.
Karen is survived by her husband, Donald W. Hulsey of Surprise, AZ; her daughter, Kerry L. (Hulsey) Heath and her husband Bryan of Surprise, AZ; her grandchildren Bridget and Colin; her brother Donald E. Bennett and his wife Cherry A. (Hadlock) Bennett of Oklahoma City, OK in addition to many other family members and loving friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents. While her loved ones grieve the loss of her here on Earth, they celebrate that she is rejoicing with her mother and father in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ. There is comfort in knowing she is no longer in pain and that the world is better for her being here. Her legacy of caregiving and love lives on in those she touched.
An intimate graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at 9:00am on Friday, July 26, 2019. The family asks that donations be made in support of cancer research in lieu of sending flowers.
