John Church Davis, 79, of Oklahoma City, passed away June 15, 2023. He was born Edward John Church Jr. to Eleanor Ruth Vittum and Edward John Church on March 3, 1944. Edward Sr. was killed in battle in Italy when Jr. was 10 months old. Eleanor later married Donald Arthur Davis who adopted Edward and he became John Church Davis.
After graduating from the Oklahoma Military Academy, John would go on to study at OU, graduating with a Master of Arts in Anthropology. He would also serve in the United States Army from 1967 to 1971, during which he became a 1st Lieutenant. He worked for Tinker Air Force Base until his retirement.
While at OU, John met and later married Sandra L. Waller in 1978. They were married for 30 years and raised 3 children, Sarah and Jeremy and Sandy’s son, Jonathan.
John was a connoisseur when it came to fine art. He loved trading, collecting and selling statues, oil paintings, and guns – the older the better. He turned his art adoration into a profession. He was passionate about history and delving into his roots, always ready with a story from his childhood. Those stories will now be passed down and cherished by his children and grandchildren.
To cherish his memory and share his stories, John leaves behind his children: Jonathan Stapp of Gallitan, Tennessee; Sarah Pequano and husband Shane, of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Jeremy Davis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Grandchildren are Kellen and Bennett Pequano.
The Davis family would also like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Choice Hospice for their excellent care of their father.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be left at www.chapelhill-okc.com for the Davis family.
