Joe Dan Trigg flew with the angels on January 8. He was 95 years old. He was a wonderful, kind man who lived with integrity and honor. A man who was so generous and truly cared about everyone he met. So calm, so gentle, and so funny. He always had us laughing. That dry wit. Those one liners. We often wondered how he came up with them so fast. He liked to have fun and would never turn down a game of gin or backgammon, or a trip to Las Vegas or California. He lived life until the end and never slowed down with age.
Joe Dan was born on June 26, 1928, in Oklahoma City to Mary C. Euless and JE Trigg. He attended Wilson Elementary, Harding and Classen. He enrolled at OU in 1946, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. After 3 years, he transferred to Rollins College where he graduated in 1951. In 1953, Joe Dan married Janice Marie Guild, and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. In 1954, he joined the Air Force. He was stationed at Langley Air Force Base where he and Janice created many happy memories. Shortly after returning to OKC, they had their children, Marianne and Dan.
Joe Dan’s father started Trigg Drilling Company in 1928. When he died in 1969, Joe Dan became president of the company. The family business included his brother Jack, cousin John, and later, his son Dan. In 1993, he helped Dan start JMD Properties, LLC, a family oil exploration company. Joe Dan’s love and passion for the oil business started at the age of 14 and never wavered until the day he passed. If fact, he may still be looking for oil in Heaven.
Joe Dan’s other passion and legacy was watching the countless children and families that have been helped by Special Care, the organization that he and co-founder Pam Newby started in 1984. His love for these families was boundless. Special Care brought him so much joy, and he was always quick to share that joy with others.
Dad, you were our rock. You were so gentle yet so strong. Always there to comfort and encourage. Mom and I don’t know what life will look like without you, but are confident you will be watching over us.
Rest in Peace, sweet man.
Thank you for everything.
Thank you for being you.
Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Britton Christian Church (922 NW 91st Street, OKC 73114). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Special Care, Inc. (12201 N. Western Ave., OKC, 73114).
