Joann Wilbanks, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 91. Joann was born on February 12, 1933 in Oklahoma City to Frank and Catherine Vandemeer, and spent her life devoted to her family and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She was known for her love of gardening, cooking, and keeping her home a place of warmth and comfort. Her hands were always busy, whether she was planting flowers, preparing delicious meals, or maintaining a clean and welcoming home. Joann retired from OG&E, where she dedicated more than 30 years of service. After retirement, she embraced the role of "MEME" with a deep love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She radiated joy when she was lifting others up, with a heart so big it was impossible not to love her. Her family was her greatest treasure, and her legacy of love, care, and kindness will forever live on in their hearts.
Preceded in death by her husband Harry Wilbanks of 33 years; parents Frank and Catherine, and sister Carol LaBourde.
She leaves cherished memories with her step-daughter Paula Cassell (Jade) of Elmore City, Oklahoma; granddaughters, Abbey Gillespie of OKC, Shelby Gillespie of Pauls Valley, and Jillian Gillespie of OKC; great-grandchildren, Declynn Gillespie, Hollis Gillespie, Weslee Welch, Jr, and Reece Low; sister, Mary Ellen Caesar (Joe); nephews, Mark Caesar and David LaBourde, niece, Christy Caesar; as well as many loving friends.
deepest gratitude to MJ Gaddis, whose unwavering compassion and dedication as a caregiver brought comfort and peace. For nine months, MJ was a constant presence, offering both physical care and emotional support to Joann. She was not only a caregiver, but also a trusted companion and friend.
Viewing will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, January 7, 2025 following to a service at 2:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home, located at 13313 N Kelley Ave. A burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
